Granting of loans severely restricted by banks.
The state and private banks have severely restricted the granting of loans this year, for the individuals and institutes.Comparatively to the year 2011, within the first five months of of the year 2012, granting of loans have been restricted to 10.5%.
Beginning of the year 2012, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka has instructed the commercial banks that, during this year, they should issue only 18% of the total amounts issued as the loans in the year 2011.
Accordingly, the state and private banks have severely restricted the granting of loans, while, loans will be granted only for the selected customers.
