N.H.D.A. sets a classic example to the Treasury.

Mr Wimal Weerawansa, the Minister of constructions, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities says that,the Katukeliyawa Model Human Settlement project of 106 houses in Anuradhapura,will be handed over to the public in the near future.The Minister has said these during an observation visit to the site.

This project was initiated simultaneous to the Deyata Kirula Exhibition of 2011, and operated by the Urban Settlement Development Authority, on the instructions of Minister Wimal Weerawansa, under the ‘Janasevana’ One Million Housing and Settlement Programme, activated by the ‘Foresight of Mahinda Chinthana’ a concept of H.E. President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

This Project contains 106 houses,where each house is provided with 13.5 perch land.The 600 Sq. Feet houses are also provided with ground facilities such as water, roads, and electricity.

The 16 Acre land for the housing project was provided by the Divisional Secretariat of Nuwara Gampalatha Central in Anuradhapura.

The Urban Settlement Development Authority has spent more that Rs76 Million for this task which is proceeding as a model green housing village.

Expressing his views to the media, Minister Wimal Weerawansa has said that;

“We came here to observe the proceedings of the Katukeliyawa housing project which contains more than 100 houses , initiated by the Urban Settlement Development Authority, few months ago.We can see all the officials of the Authority and the employees of the attached institutes, are very busy with the construction work of this housing project.”
“Some of these Houses are constructed by using the environmental friendly raw materials such as Kaolin that could be easily found in this area. We are intending to introduce that technology to the society.We also expect to conclude the constructions of this project and handover the houses to the public simultaneous to the commemoration of Presidential Installation.Each house in this village is worth more than Rs650,000. This project covers a 16 Acre area. Therefore, the Urban Settlement Development Authority is intending to embellish the internal roads and the land of this village.”"The money allocated for this project was saved from the money which was allocated for another project, through economic utilization.We have set a classic example to the Treasury,” the minister said.
