Registration of news websites compulsory. Registration fee is Rs 100,000.

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to amend the newspaper act which is now being activated in this country, and to register the news websites.
Accordingly, it was decided to register all websites with the Mass Media and Information Ministry.
Therefore, a sum of Rs 100,000 will be charged for the registration, while, a sum of Rs 50,000 is due to be charged annually,as renewal fee.

Vass Gunawardena interdicted from service
