Rs10 coins and Rs5000 notes to replace Rs10 and Rs2000 notes.
The Central Bank Sri Lanka has decided to stop printing of Rs10 and Rs2000 currency notes henceforth.
Mr Ajith Nivad Cabral, the Governor of Central Bank says that,a coin will be introduced instead of Rs10 note.
‘However, notes which are already in the circulation could be used for transactions’, he says. He further says that,it was decided to print more 5000 Rupee notes instead of 2000 Rupee notes which will not be printed hereafter.
‘Since,the Central Bank of Sri Lanka has already issued a series of currency notes of Rs20, Rs50, Rs100,Rs500, Rs1000, and Rs5000,it’s not practical to have a Rs2000 note’ he says.
