It is being reported that, the surplus salt stocks of the Hambantota salt pan has been decreased, since the salt production which was about to be started in last February, was diminished due to the bad weather conditions. Since the prepared salt was dissolved due to heavy downfall of rains, the remained surplus stock was sold.
The Production Manager of the salt tanks says that, the reproduction of salt will be commenced in the next month and the production target of the Main salt tank of Hambantota will be 56,000 Metric Tonnes,while the production target of Buthtala and Palatupana salt tanks will be 20,000 Metric Tonnes. According to the Production Manager, it is sufficient for the consumption of the country. It is being said that, this is the first occasion that the salt production was diminished due to the bad weather conditions.
