නාවික හමුදාපතිවරයා ලෙස දැනට සේවය කරන වයිස් අද්මිරාල් සෝමතිලක දිසානායක මහතා ලබන 26 වැනිදායින් පසු නව නාවික හමුදාපතිවරයා ලෙස රියර් අද්මිරාල් ජයනාත් සිරිකුමාර කොළඹගේ මහතා පත්කිරීමට ජනාධිපති මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂ මහතා තීරණය කර ඇති බව නාවික හමුදා මුලස්ථාන ආරංචි මාර්ග සදහන් කරයි.
මේ වන විට නැගෙනහිර නාවික විධාන ආඥපතිවරයා ලෙස කටයුතු කරන ඔහු මීළග නාවික හමුදාපති ධූරයට පත්වීමට නියමිත අතර තුසිත් මාලිය බණ්ඩාර වීරසේකර, දමයන්ත ජයනෙත් ධර්මසිරිවර්ධන, මැක්සිමස් ජයන්ත පෙරේරා යන රියර් අද්මිරාල්වරු තිදෙනාද නාවික හමුදාපති තනතුරට බලාපොරොත්තුව සිටියහ.
මේ අතර නාවික හමුදාපති වයිස් අද්මිරාල් සෝමතිලක දිසානායක මහතා අද්මිරාල් තනතුරට උසස් කර තිබේ. අද (24) සිට ක්රියාත්මක වන පරිදි ජනාධිපති මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂ මහතා විසින් වයිස් අද්මිරාල් සෝමතිලක දිසානායක මහතා අදාළ නිලයට උසස් කර තිබේ.

Lip service is at the best!. Why is there a necessity to promote incumbent Navy Commander to next higher rank and set him retire?. The rank of Admiral is given to anyone who has actively served the country immensely on war time otherwise the Nave commander position is for someone with real admiral rank. There is no on going war at the moment.
It is eye washing appointment and rather ridiculous.
PLease be shut up if u don’t knw about the military procedures. its a military practise to promote to the next rank on the retirement. (and also in the death)
True. I was thinking the very same thing. Why promote the guy to 4* admiral??? It’s because of political connections. Nothing else. 4* is a rank you EARN. It is not a rank you get in SL.
Please shut up if u don’t know the naval procedure. It’s the normal way of the navy that, if a Vice Admiral become the Commander of the Navy, then when he’s retiring, the naval board and the president’s board are promoting him to the rank of Admiral depending on the service that he has done for the country and the navy. Adm Dissanayaka pioneered in constructing new navy hospital @ walisara, New naval base @ panama & puttalam. developing naval camps @ walisara, galle(dakshina), diyathalawa (holiday bungalows), tangalle (ruhuna) & kirinda.
Finally the reason that a naval commander promoting to the rank of Admiral 2 days before the retirement is, Our country is still a developing country and therefore the naval fleet is not big enough still. in order to make an Admiral a navy commander, our navy should have enough fleet. its same for other forces as well. thats why Adm dissanayaka got the rank as Admiral after a new navy commander was announced. Coz technically an admiral cannot be a navy commander in a developing county unless he receives a presidents medal as a war hero and gets promoted for his bravery and performance in the war (like Adm karannagoda).
